Current mood: relieved

The thing about beating your head against the wall...
is that it feels so good when it stops.

Today Tom's staff did something I never even would have asked them to do because I figured it would be right against the rules; they left the VCR cabinet open so Tom could push the buttons.

Tom is in heaven.  He is in control of something.  He is watching the same 30 seconds of a tape over and over; he is calm and sometimes even happy.  We saw him just before dinner and he wasn't obsessing about food or keys or anything, just enjoying his tape.  And then they brought him a nice supper of baked chicken and a plain baked potato and plenty of ketchup.

I had to post right away because so many of our dear friends are concerned about him and about us.  After today, I'm about giddy with relief that, at least for a while, he is not suffering.  Staff there continues to be knowledgeable and friendly and kind.

Thank you again to all of you who have given kind words, prayers, and support in this difficult time.  We've got a long path to travel, but with our friends and kin by our side we know we can get there.

Hugs to you all!

HA! Super cool. If it helps its well worth the $300 to replace it if he screws it up... If this is something you wish to continue to offer him we have an old DVD VHS player you can HAVE for him if he is allowed a TV in his room. The dvd part doesnt work anymore. Or if the whole thing breaks will it be more traumatic then not having one at all?

Thanks, Hon, but he's using the main one in the lounge and they are cool with that . . . I expect it's pretty sturdy . . .

I'm glad to hear things are improving. I bet he's happy as a clam to have that VCR to play with--it probably doesn't even matter what the tape is. And it sounds like he's getting great care. Bless your heart.
