Da Big Meeting
We had a big meeting about Tom's immediate future today.  It was long, with a bunch of rehashing what had happened, why nobody saw where it was going till it was too late, and why it wasn't anybody's fault, but the nub is this:

Tom is now able to coexist with other people.  It is important now to get him *out* of the hospital as quickly as possible, because the longer he stays, the harder the next transition will be.  There will be a bed open in a crisis house (think half-way house) in West St. Paul on Thursday, so we will move him there then.

By we I mean Mom and Dad.  I guess that means I should scout the location tomorrow.

I hope that West St. Paul will agree to transport Tom to his usual school in Mpls.  If they don't; I will drive him there and back to his house for as many days as it takes.  School has been wonderful for him and he needs that stability and anchor as he copes with yet another placement.  Also, they need him to get out of the house and get some stimulus or he'll go mad with boredom and they'll pay the price.

I hope this goes well . . .

My heart is hurting for you. I hope Tom finds equilibrium soon.

I dont understand, he has to move from his home because his medications got messed up and he caused a problem? What is this MOVE going to do to him? New staff, new rooms, new people. Or is this just temp until his meds are working correctly?

Well, part of it is to give time for the guy he was picking on, in his permanent placement, to recover; this guy is very low-functioning, weak, and vulnerable, and it must have been a nightmare for him. Also, some of these meds take time to stabilize in the system, and they want him in a temporary placement while that happens. Also, the people in the crisis home are extremely competent at working to redirect and prevent problem behaviors; it will be helpful to have their input. (These crisis placements are *extremely* costly, because of the very highly trained staff).
