Death by pleasure
Are there any of my foodie friends out there who do not know about the Bulldog N.E. tavern, at 401 East Hennepin?  I got them from a review in City Pages.  At the moment (until the genius chef who hangs out there gets tired of sleeping in the liquor closet), they have amazing food and drink, particularly featuring wagyu beef hamburgers of astonishing flavor.  The fries are deep, rich golden-brown, thin and gorgeous by themselves, and available with fennel sprinkle and terragon alioli and truffle oil with parmesan.  Also, the beer list is nothing short of amazing.  We took Tom there after church and a walk.  I got missable nachos, though the guacamole, pico de gallo, and cilantro creme freche were all excellent.  G, though, got a truffle burger, which made our toes curl with pleasure.

The fries start at $3.00 for plain and the burgers start at $8.00.

Not to be missed.

The genius chef is a former co-chair of Minicon 33, as well as the son of [info]minnehaha K.

We've eaten there once. I'd really like to get there again.

Actually, the chef got fired shortly after the City Pages review. It seems a customer ordered a salad with the dressing on the side. The chef refused to serve it that way and ended up getting into a fight with the bartender and squirting him and a few customers with mustard before all hell broke loose. The chef and bartender were fired on the spot.

I had lunch there yesterday and it was fantastic!
